We are a group of experienced musicians, producers and engineers who have done well in our careers and we want to put something back.

It really is as simple and basic as that.

Our founder, Chic McSherry OBE, has been playing in bands since he was 12 years old and writing songs most of his life. He has 6 studio albums to his credit plus a live album. He has also had a very successful business career, a large part of that as a recognised Business Mentor for the Scottish Government for which he gained an OBE.

“I never learned much from success in life, apart from hubris. I learned almost everything from getting things wrong and picking myself up and getting back in the game. But the best thing I learned was that I needed good mentors: folk that had already made those mistakes and learned from them and that were prepared to pass that wisdom along for free. When I eventually mentored young start-ups myself, my role was to give honest opinions and advice and then work as hard as possible to help the business get their goals, whether they took my advice or not. I reckon that mentoring approach will transfer into the Guild. My opinion is that your songs are just that: YOUR songs. I’ll offer advice on direction, production, arrangement, involve other musicians in the process…but ultimately it is your opinion and direction that will decide the outcome of the song. It’s your song, not mine, and you are the one that needs to decide what success looks like for you and your song.”
